OCCURRENCE DETAILS SUBMITTED TO RAAUS: The TW biplane was taking off downhill. When the TW off the ground, in almost nil wind aircraft unusually veered left and the pilot over corrected to the right and heading toward some rough ground off the RWY. The pilot pulled back on the stick thinking they had enough speed to take off, however stalled from about 10ft and collapsed the main gear as the aircraft landed quite flat.
Members are reminded of the importance of familiarization on new aircraft types. RAAP -1 Type Training provides guidance in these areas.

|
After touchdown for a full stop on RWY 35R while trying to apply X-Wind Technique the student did not apply sufficient rudder, resulting in the instructor taking over and keeping aircraft on RWY by apply right rudder which lead them to RWY 22. Therefore, they vacated onto RWY 22 to exit onto taxiway in order to prevent any delays to incoming aircraft or cause any undue stress. They were then notified by tower to "next time please request to vacate via RWY 22" to which the instructor responded with an apology. OUTCOME: The occurrence was reviewed between the instructor and CFI with appropriate actions taken to prevent recurrence. |

During solo CCT training, on the first touch and go the aircraft veered to the left and consequently turned left and exited the RWY. It then came to a stop in the crop adjacent to the RWY.
Subsequent discussion with CFI indicated potentially greater variance in wind direction than noted initially. A checklist for assessment of minimum and maximum conditions will be implemented to ensure conditions are suitable for solo. |

The instructor was monitoring the student as they departed to the training area off of RWY 35L. The student began tracking in towards land slowly while on the downwind leg and began getting closer to land (due to not maintaining a constant heading). This resulted in the instructor taking over control of the aircraft and begin tracking back out over water to maintain the correct departure procedure. Approx. 5-10 seconds later YMMB tower advised the aircraft it had followed incorrect departure procedure.
OUTCOME:The occurrence was reviewed between the instructor and CFI with appropriate actions taken to prevent recurrence. |

|
During an instructional flight, on departure from YMMB RWY 35, the pilot initiated a turn to the left towards the YMMB Training Area too early. They were following company traffic and thought it was better as this would also avoid inbound traffic from Carrum. YMMB Tower called over radio and advised that both the pilot and their company traffic were in breach of procedure.OUTCOME:The occurrence was reviewed between the instructor and CFI with appropriate actions taken to prevent recurrence. |

|
On landing directional control was lost, the aircraft moved off course to the left. The pilot applied full brakes and ran off the RWY into a small drainage ditch. Possible pilot distraction preceding this during the circuit, due to another aircraft. Pilots are reminded to maintain full concentration on landing as Runway Loss of Control continues to be a major factor in accidents. |

|
Whilst conducting a ground run testing the engine, several difficult starts were completed via hand propping as no starter is designed for this aircraft. On the final prop, the engine fired before TDC and swung in opposite direction. Because of the force and fall direction of the maintainers hand, it impacted the up coming propeller blade on the palm of their hand this bruising at the base of their thumb. There were no broken bones or further damage to aircraft. |
